HTC’s new Windows Phone; The Windows Phone 8X by HTC arrived into market last week. It is the most handsome phone from HTC. The glossy black frame gives the device a good look. And the shiny screen glass also makes the phone. The phone comes in various colours including purple blue. As common in all windows phones the HTC 8X’s icons have the same colour of the frame. Other colours such as black and yellow are also available.
The main rival is the Nokia Lumia 920. Take a look at its specs and features.
Size and Build
The phone’s metal body keeps it solid and strong. There is no internal frame for the phone. The thin battery makes the phone to be thinner and light weight. The phone weights only 130g.
The polycarbonate frame body and the glass make the phone so smooth. The only disappointment is that the power button on the top edge needs too much power for pressing. There is no physical home button. The only physical buttons present in the phone are the home and the button for the camera.
The phone is so thinner as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. The dimension of the phone is 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1 mm (5.21 x 2.61 x 0.40 in). As most of the phones now the 8X also needs Micro-SIM
Features
The 8X has a dedicated amp built right into the phone. It increases the quality of sound. Sound is one of the main highlighted features of the phone. This extra audio boost works throughout the phone, whether you’re listening to music or watching video.
The 8MP camera also feels good. It has a wide-open f/2.0 aperture, so lots of light gets in. HTC prides itself on cameras that are ready to go quickly with minimal shutter lag. The camera also has features like auto-focus and LED flash. The company also offers Geo-tagging and touch focus.
The 2.1MP front camera is capable for 1080 HD video. It can be also used for video calling. Today, most of the smartphones are featured with a 10MP or above camera in the rear and 1 or 1.3MP camera in front. But the HTC 8X is different from all this.
The phone also has NFC; the contactless data transfer system, though implementations of this on Windows Phone 8 are still pretty minimal.
Other features include SNS integration, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/WMA player, MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player, Document viewer/editor, Video/photo editor, Voice memo/command/dial and Predictive text input.
The phone also has dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. It also has v3.1 Bluetooth with A2DP, EDR. The phone also has a 2.0 Micro USB port.
Screen
The phone has a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. There is no doubt about the screen it even beats the Retina Display of iPhone 5 and Google Nexus 7 screen.
Although the screen is not AMOLED but is still bright and colourful. The screen and the Windows 8 tiles make the phone a crowd-puller. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
The device also allows multi-touch. The most famous Windows phones such as Nokia Lumia don’t offer such a display, but HTC offers it.
Performance
The phone is powered by Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon, which is the same that is featured in Nokia Lumia 920.The chipset offered is Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait. The manufacturers are limited by the choice of processors for Windows phones. So this seems good with the 8X. The phone has 1GB of RAM which makes it fast.
This all are enough for the phone to work without any slowdowns or glitches. The touchscreen is so smooth and of great response. There is no MicroSD slots, don’t worry HTC offers a 32GB of internal storage. The phone comes with sensors such as Accelerometer, proximity and compass.
The phone is occupied with a Non-removable Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery. This gives satisfactory talk time up to a day or two. But we recommend you to charge it daily.
After Words
We can say this is a fantabulous Windows phone, with its features and specs. The phone’s screen is as smooth as butter. The high-resolution screen means the Windows Phone 8 tiles gleam and the fast processor ensures it’s a pleasant phone to use.
The Windows phones need less customisation than Android phones, this also makes the phone easier to use. The phone is available in the following colours: California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow. The device costs £400, which is not so high when compared to other similar phones. The phone will be a good choice if u need a Windows phone.
